Influenced by the Transcendental Painting Group, sand mandalas, and the subcultural aesthetics of rave, Smashing Games, Alexandros Vasmoulakis’ new solo exhibition, juxtaposes handmade wallpaper installations with paintings on canvas and board, and combines them with debris from monumental carnival sculptures creating an aggregate that builds on the discourse on the fluidity of consciousness. Vasmoulakis (b. 1980) studied in the Athens School of Fine Arts and the UMPRUM Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He has held solo exhibitions at Hollis Taggart Gallery New York, Eins Gallery, Limassol, Cyprus; The Breeder Gallery, Athens, Le Basse Projects, Los Angeles and Gallery Nosco in London. His work has also been included in various group exhibitions, including Fondation Cartier, Paris; Antikenmuseum, Basel; Benaki Museum, Athens; and Bozar, Brussels, among others.
