Benjamin Kress (born in 1976, Montana) received his B.F.A. from The Cooper Union in 2000 and studied at L’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. He was awarded an M.F.A. from Yale University in 2004. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Benjamin Kress creates uncanny creatures to explore ideas about one's own identity, mortality, and transformation. He blends and hybridizes faces, figures, and landscapes using digital software. The final computer-generated sketches are manually painted using oil on linen surfaces. His works refer to historically significant paintings concerning origins and endings.
