Body Builder (On Grass), 2021 , Rhinestones, beads, faux pearls, acrylic painted wood panel, 91 x 91 cm

Benjamin Cabral (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Chicago. His work has been shown internationally and throughout the United States. Benjamin's work is largely autobiographical in nature, creating an honest, yet inherently unreliable, portrait of the artist. His recent paintings are entirely encrusted in beads and rhinestones. These paintings are conceived digitally and the pixels are then transferred to the panel through the meditative application of beads. This series of work examines the intersections between trauma and nostalgia, joy and sorrow as well as the digital and the analog. Benjamin Cabral also creates sculptural work, intended to be static performers engaging with the viewer. He completed his MFA at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and is the winner of the 2019 Carrie Ellen Tuttle Fellowship.
